What is Music Therapy?
Music Therapy is the therapeutic use of music and music experiences to work towards individualized goals which are determined by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved Music Therapy program. These experiences are designed to influence changes in the social, cognitive, physical, psychological, communication and sensory functioning of individuals.
Music Therapists work in a variety of settings such as nursing homes, hospitals, hospice programs, schools, agencies for the developmentally disabled, psychiatric facilities and correctional facilities.
A Music Therapist is one who has completed an approved Music Therapy program and internship. Upon completion of the curriculum and internship, the Music Therapist is eligible to take the certification exam to earn the MT-BC (Music Therapist Board Certified) status.
